About Laer

Laer Pearce (that’s me) was born in California … and promptly left.

Being in a Navy family was like that.  I dropped in again for second grade, passed through a couple times as we hustled from one overseas posting to another, visited twice while in college, and on February 1, 1980, crossed over the border from Yuma, Arizona to finally claim my birth state as my home state.

Thanks to a benefactor (my soon-to-be-wife, who worked her knuckles to the bone to help me get started), I set up a public relations agency in Orange County.  Over the years, business drifted into work in support of California’s most-regulated businesses – builders, miners, hospitals, cable companies – and I watched as a difficult regulatory environment transformed into one that was comically, tragically complex.  About that time, I changed my voter registration from Democrat to Republican.

Jump to October 2004, when I started my blog Cheat-Seeking Missiles, which is now on hiatus while I work on Crazifornia.  A lot of my posts delved into California’s fascinatingly ludicrous nuttiness and in time a standing headline for these posts emerged: Crazifornia.  The whole idea became more interesting than anything else I was blogging about, so I stopped blogging and started researching and writing about nothing but Crazifornia.

Thanks for your interest – and be sure to let me know your own Crazifornia stories!
